PARENT EDUCATOR

Basic Function: The mission of TLC Family Resource Center is to promote the optimal health and development of children and families living in Sullivan and lower Grafton counties. In order to accomplish our mission, TLC employs parent educators who help to strengthen families. The role of the parent educator is to help parents and children develop healthy attachment, create positive parent/child relationships, and achieve their goals using the Growing Great Kids curriculum.

Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Establish professional relationship with families;
  • Make home visits to families to provide specific support designed to promote the development of healthy family relationships;
  • Assess family strengths and areas of concern;
  • Help families to develop and achieve their goals;
  • Write and maintain a current Individualized Family Support Plan for each family;
  • Assist families to implement action steps to meet their goals;
  • Participate in team meetings and individual/group supervision with clinical supervisor;
  • Maintain and submit timely documentation as required by supervisor;
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training to enhance effectiveness and knowledge of family support principles and techniques.

Parent Aide with Child Health Support Services

Basic Function: Attending to supervised visits set up by DCYF for families affected by abuse and neglect.

Essential Duties:

  • Basic parenting education
  • Establish professional relationship with referred families.
  • Assess family strengths and areas of concern.
  • Write and maintain reports as required by DCYF in a timely fashion
  • Assist families to implement action steps to meet their goals.
  • Participate in supervision with supervisor.
  • Assist with resources and coordination of services

Hours: Days, after school and/or weekends. This is a per diem position.

Supervision Received: Reports to and is supervised by the Nurse Case Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor

Supervision Exercised: None

Qualifications (knowledge and skills): B.A. degree in human services and 3 years experience working with children and families.
