Family Support Services
Family Support: Zero to Three

TLC Family Resource Center provides services that are tailored to the individual needs of the family and delivered in the convenience of the home. The purpose of home visits is to help parents develop the knowledge, skills and resources needed to raise a healthy, happy child. What better place to do this than in the home where the family lives? Visits to the home are especially convenient for families who aren’t ready to leave the house with a new baby and helpful to families who don’t have transportation. The visits are always confidential and voluntary.

During the first few home visits, the parents and the TLC Family Resource Center parent educator choose the goals that the family wants to work on during home visits. Sample family goals:

The programs may include support for preventive health and prenatal practices such as helping parents find suitable prenatal care, improve their diets, and reduce use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal substances. In addition, parent educators may provide health and development education for mother and child of any age by helping parents understand child development milestones and behaviors and promoting parents’ use of praise and other positive parenting techniques utilizing curriculum such as Growing Great Kids and Watch Me Grow. They may also work with parents to set goals for the future, continue their education, and find employment and child care solutions.

Over time, families and parent educators build partnerships and work together to:
