Parenting Support Classes

A Parenting Support Group for all families and caretakers of babies will be held at TLC Family Resource Center, 109 Pleasant St, Claremont, on June 1.  Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association will partner with TLC Family Resource Center to present topics relevant to all families. The subject of the June 1 event will be “Feeding in the First Year.” The discussion will be led by Ruth Smolnik who is a registered nurse and the Maternal Child Health Case Manager for Lake Sunapee Region VNA. The group discussion will include sharing from participants about what works for each family as well as information from Ms.Smolnik on infant cues to the introduction of solids and then table foods. The June 1 event is free to all families and will take place from 5:30-7 pm with dinner and child care provided in adjacent rooms. TLC Family Resource Center will also be sponsoring a second Parent Support Group on the subject of “Talking So Your Children Will Listen” on Saturday, June 10, from 9:30 – 11 am. Free breakfast and childcare will also be provided at this event which will be led by Melony Williams, Clinical Supervisor for TLC Family Resource Center. TLC Family Resource Center Director Maggie Monroe-Cassel is excited to start these new parent support programs. She says, “We are reaching out to all families and caregivers to see what needs there are for additional support in the important task of raising children.” Jeana Newbern, Volunteer Services and Marketing Coordinator with Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice has been coordinating this effort with Ms. Monroe-Cassel. She says: “Our partnership with TLC Family Resource Center is an opportunity to bring families together to learn and grow.” TLC Family Resource Center hopes to start a series of parenting support groups in the fall.
